Scholarship Description

Kyungpook National University (KNU) is a leading national institution established in 1946, recognized globally for academic excellence and state-of-the-art research infrastructure. Located in Daegu, KNU provides an accessible and enriching environment for international scholars.

The KNU International Graduate Scholarship program provides full tuition coverage for approved graduate courses. The Master’s and Doctoral programs are structured for two years, while the combined Master’s & Doctoral program spans four years. Scholarship awards are evaluated at the end of each academic semester based on academic progress and performance to ensure continued eligibility.

Eligibility/Qualification

Applicants must satisfy the following academic and entry criteria to be eligible for selection:

  • Nationality: Must be a citizen of a country other than South Korea (international student status).
  • Academic Requirements:
    • For Master’s or Combined programs: Hold a recognized bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
    • For Doctoral (PhD) programs: Hold a recognized master’s degree or equivalent.
  • Admission Status: Must receive an offer of admission to an eligible graduate program at Kyungpook National University.
  • Language Proficiency: Must satisfy KNU’s language requirements via valid standardized test scores (such as TOPIK for Korean-taught tracks, or IELTS/TOEFL iBT for English-taught tracks).

  • Statement of Purpose and Comprehensive Study Plan
  • Academic Recommendation Letter (submitted directly by a university professor or in a official sealed envelope)
  • Official Undergraduate / Graduate Degree Certificates or Proof of Expected Graduation
  • Official Academic Transcripts from all previously attended higher education institutions
  • Proof of Language Proficiency (TOPIK, IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or equivalent)
  • Certificate of Enrollment/Transcript from a Korean Language Institute (if applicable)
  • Copy of Applicant’s Valid Passport
  • Copy of Alien Registration Card (front & back, if residing in South Korea)
  • Birth Certificate or Family Census Register verifying family relations
  • Portfolio or Work Samples (mandatory for Fine Arts and Design applicants)

How to Apply

Candidates do not need to complete a separate financial aid application for the scholarship. Every qualified international candidate who applies and receives an offer of admission to an approved graduate degree course at Kyungpook National University is automatically considered for the KNU International Graduate Scholarship.
