Scholarship Description

The EMMIR program is jointly administered by a consortium of African, European, and Asian universities. It offers an intercultural, comparative perspective on migration, human movement, and transnational processes. The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support throughout the full 24-month duration:

  • Monthly Living Allowance: Fully funded scholarship recipients receive a monthly stipend of €1,400 for up to 24 months.
  • Tuition and Participation Costs: Full tuition fees, laboratory fees, university registration, and basic health insurance coverage are completely covered for scholarship recipients.
  • Travel and Installation: Students manage relocation, visa, vaccination, and travel expenses using their allocated living allowance.

Eligibility / Qualification Criteria

Candidates must meet the following academic and language prerequisites to be considered for admission and funding:

  • Undergraduate Degree: Applicants must hold a completed bachelor’s degree (first degree) or its equivalent before the application deadline, with a minimum cumulative grade equivalent to C+ or higher.
  • Relevant Academic Background: Degrees in disciplines such as social sciences, history, cultural studies, education, law, economics, development studies, international relations, or journalism.
  • Domain Knowledge: Proven academic foundations in empirical research methods, migration dynamics, and intercultural relations.
  • Prior Funding Restriction: Applicants who have previously been awarded an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship are not eligible for another EMJM award.
  • English Proficiency: Valid proof of English proficiency (minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent). Exemptions apply to graduates from recognized English-medium higher education programs or professionals with verified employer-certified English work experience.
  • Second Language Requirement: Native English speakers must demonstrate competence in a second language relevant to migration studies by the deadline.
