The DESY Summer Student Program 2026 invites international students for a fully funded research internship in Germany. This program offers participants a unique opportunity to gain professional experience while working in a diverse environment.

- 🔬 Eligibility: Undergraduate students in physics or related fields (scientific computing, engineering)
- 🧪 Research Fields: Photon science, Accelerators, Elementary particle physics, Astroparticle physics
- 🏢 Locations: DESY laboratories in Hamburg or Zeuthen (near Berlin)
- ⚙️ Project Activities: Practical work on detectors/experimental equipment, physics data analysis, software development, theory, scientific computing
- 👩🔬 Experience: Independent research, collaboration with expert scientists, hands-on exposure
- 📚 Lectures & Visits: English lectures on DESY research topics, tours of accelerators, experiments, and computer centres
- ⏱️ Workload: 39 hours per week (project + lectures)

Eligibility/Qualification
- Must be a foreign national.
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree or be in the first year of a Master’s program.
- Applicants who already have a Master’s degree or will obtain one in 2024 are not eligible.
- Previous DESY Summer Students are not eligible to apply.
- Good working knowledge of English is required.
- Basic computing skills are necessary.
Job Description
Selected candidates will participate in a 7-week internship from July 21 to September 10, 2026. Activities will involve working in academic fields and could include participation in parties, tours, and various entertainment events. Participants will be part of a unique cultural and professional experience.
