Designation

Academic Designation: Master of Science (M.Sc.) – Joint / Double Master’s Degree in Advanced Materials Science and Engineering (AMASE)

Awarding Body: Erasmus+ Programme, European Union

Scholarship Description

The Advanced Materials Science and Engineering (AMASE) program is a specialized two-year (120 ECTS) joint master’s initiative designed to prepare graduates for leadership roles in global industrial and academic research. A defining feature of the AMASE program is its dual-campus structure: students study at two distinct European partner universities, completing core courses during the first year and specializing during the second year before writing a thesis. Graduates receive two official master’s degrees—one from each host institution attended—alongside advanced multilingual and intercultural competencies.

Research Area

The AMASE degree curriculum covers cutting-edge fields in materials science and technology, allowing students to specialize in one of five track options:

  • Metals and Alloys: Processing, characterization, and structural performance
  • Polymers and Composite Materials: Advanced synthesis and functional applications
  • Nanomaterials and Biomaterials: Biomedical implants, tissue engineering, and nano-scale devices
  • Functional Surfaces and Interfaces: Coatings, thin films, and surface engineering
  • Advanced Processing Technologies: Innovative manufacturing methods for modern high-tech industries

Location and Participating Universities

Studies take place across partner universities located in six European countries. Students select two distinct institutions according to their preferred tracks and language proficiencies.

Country Participating Institution Primary Language of Instruction
Sweden Luleå University of Technology (LTU) English
Austria Montanuniversität Leoben (MUL) English
Italy University of Padua (UNIPD) English
Germany Saarland University (UdS) German
France Université de Lorraine (UL) French
Spain Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) Spanish
