Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Academic Record: Above-average university degree and clear study/career path.
  • Civic Engagement: Active and documented voluntary involvement in public-interest activities, community service, NGOs, or student leadership focused on democratic principles.   
  • Language Proficiency: Demonstrated B2 level in German (language certificate mandatory at the time of application).   
  • For PhD Candidates: Completed dissertation proposal, academic references, and written confirmation of supervision/enrolment from a German university.
  • For Journalism Candidates: Submission of media work samples (up to 5 links/samples of TV, radio, or print/multimedia projects).   

Job / Program Description

Recipients of the Hanns Seidel Scholarship undergo academic training or doctoral research in Germany while engaging in socio-political networking. Scholars are expected to participate in non-material support programs, including leadership development seminars, workshops on civil society, and discussions on democratic governance.
