Research Area: Various disciplines at Leiden University including but not limited to Archaeology, Humanities, Medicine/LUMC, Governance and Global Affairs, Law, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Science, African Studies Centre, International Institute for Asian Studies.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Applicants must be non-EEA/non-EFTA students, except for certain programs such as Advanced LLMs and MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy.
  • Exception for UK students: UK students are now eligible to apply for the LExS due to the UK’s non-EEA status post-Brexit.
  • Academic excellence: Applicants must have achieved outstanding academic results in their previous relevant study program, typically ranking within the top 10% of graduates. Proof of ranking is not required, but academic excellence is a prerequisite.
  • Program and nationality requirements: Certain exclusions apply, and applicants must comply with the study program and nationality requirements stated in the scholarship details.

Job Description:
The scholarship recipient is expected to commit to the Terms and Conditions attached to the scholarship. This includes maintaining academic excellence, complying with the guidelines related to the scholarship, and confirming their agreement with the terms in writing prior to the awarding of the scholarship.

How to Apply:

  1. Apply online for admission to a Master’s program at Leiden University and pay the application fee if applicable.
  2. After submitting the application for admission, return to the application portal and click on Scholarships to check eligibility for the LExS.
  3. Applicants eligible for the LExS can indicate their interest and upload a motivation letter, explaining why they should be considered for the award.
  4. Submit the scholarship application before the LExS deadline, ensuring that all required documents and information are provided.
  5. Late applications will not be considered, so it’s essential to ensure that both the application for admission and the scholarship application are submitted before the deadline.
