Research Areas

The fellowship program is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge in areas aligned with the commitments of the Paris Agreement and Conferences of the Parties (COP). Research proposals must focus on one of the following themes:

  • Societal challenges of environmental issues

Eligibility/Qualification

To be considered for the MOPGA Fellowship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Nationality: Open to all international applicants. French citizens are not eligible to apply.
  • Academic Qualification: Applicants must hold a PhD degree completed within the last five years (specifically, the thesis defense must have taken place between December 2021 and December 2026).
  • Residency Rule: Candidates must not have resided in France for more than 90 days between September 15, 2026, and December 15, 2026.

Scholarship Description

Launched in 2018, the Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) initiative has become an iconic postdoctoral mobility program in France. It represents France’s ongoing commitment to global environmental preservation and climate action. The fellowship provides early-career scientists with an outstanding opportunity to collaborate with leading French research groups.

The program offers comprehensive financial support to ensure fellows can focus entirely on their scientific pursuits. Successful candidates will receive:

  • A monthly living allowance of 2,500 Euros.
  • A one-time moving allowance of 500 Euros.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage.

Required Application Documents

Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents in English or French:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) including a list of publications (maximum of 4 pages).
  • Copy of the PhD Diploma or official Certificate of graduation.
  • CV of the research supervisor at the hosting French institution (maximum of 2 pages).
  • An official letter of support from the French host institution.
  • Up to three letters of recommendation.
  • A copy of your passport or official proof of identity.

Research Project Proposal Requirements

The proposal submitted during the application must contain:

  • Project Title and 6 key search words.
  • Abstract of the research project (maximum 2,000 characters).
  • Context and motivation of the study (maximum 2,000 characters).
  • Scientific objectives (maximum 2,000 characters).
  • Methodology and implementation timeline (maximum 4,500 characters).
  • Project alignment with the MOPGA scientific domains (maximum 2,000 characters).
  • Potential collaborations and anticipated impact on the candidate’s home country (maximum 2,000 characters).
