  • 🎓 Program Overview: Saitama University’s Graduate School of Science and Engineering offers a doctoral program in Engineering, Science, or Engineering/Science (PhD), with research in Materials Science, Electronics, Informatics, and Mechanical Engineering. Courses, research supervision, and dissertations are conducted in English.
  • 🗓️ Program Duration & Start: Standard 3-year residency; enrollment in April or October 2026.
  • 💰 Scholarships:
    • MEXT Scholarship: Covers tuition, fees, monthly allowance (145,000 yen + 3,000 yen regional allowance), and round-trip airfare. Duration up to 3 years. 8 students selected.
    • Privately Funded: Applicants may have their own financial support or apply for external scholarships.
  • ✅ Eligibility: Master’s degree by enrollment, under 35 years old, excellent academic record, proof of English proficiency (TOEFL iBT 72 / IELTS 5.5 or CEFR B2), good health, residing outside Japan, and not a recent Japanese Government Scholarship recipient.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Applicants must have or expect to have a Master’s Degree before enrollment.
  • Must be a national of a country that has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government.
  • Must be under 35 years of age as of April 1, 2026 (born on or after April 2, 1991).
  • Must have excellent academic achievements.
  • Should be in good mental and physical health.
  • Must reside outside Japan at the time of application and should not hold Japanese nationality.
  • Must be able to arrive in Japan by the designated date at the end of September 2025.
  • Must not have received a Japanese Government Scholarship in the last three years.
  • Proof of English language proficiency is required.

Job Description

The scholarship covers the following financial benefits:
